The University of the Philippines Integrated School Batch 1988 held its first fun run titled UmPISahang Tumakbo Laban sa Pagbabago ng Klima last November 15, 2009 in UP Diliman Campus.
The 5 kilometer and 10 kilometer runs were organized to raise funds to support several ongoing environmental projects like the organic farm inside the UPIS grounds, a composting facility at the UP Stud farm, and a tree planting project that will be held during the UPIS week this December. Moreover, the proceeds will help other socio-civic endeavors that Batch ’88 is currently spearheading.
Up for grabs were cash prizes worth P50,000 and giftchecks from the various sponsors. Aside from the run, there was a green fair wherein various environmental groups like WWF, Greenpeace, Haribon were featured and participants were invited to take part in their various environmental projects being held all over the country. The activity was culminated by a skydiving exhibition by a composite team of the PNP and AFP skydivers.
Batch ’88 is very thankful to its sponsors and partners who made the event a success: Philips, M-150 Energy Drink, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes, Alaxan FR, the Philippine Tourism Authority, Maita’s Taho, Pioneer Insurance, Eye Republic, Kiss the Cook Café, Del Monte Fit n’ Right, Pocari Sweat, China Bank, GMiranda and Sons Bookstore, Second Wind Running Store, Bacci Restaurant, ABS-CBN News Channel and Jam 88.3.
With the recent barrage of typhoons that hit the country and the looming climate change, UPIS Batch ’88 together with its sponsors, partners and race participants are dedicated to help increase environmental awareness and promote its protection by adhering to the aphorism that we should “THINK GLOBAL, ACT LOCAL”.
