Shelter For Abandoned Children

Mary Comforter of the Poor and Afflicted Inc.  is a shelter for abused and abandoned children.  It was founded by Sister Salud Guerrero, O.P. (Dominican) on July 31, 2007 and is located at #15 Dollar street, CBE Townhomes, Mapayapa Village, Quezon City.
Presently, there are 11 girls aged 2-9 years old, and 7 infants being cared for by Sr. Salud and her dedicated volunteers.  Some of these innocent souls were either abandoned at the convent (one child was only 2 days old when he joined the group) while others were rescued from abusive relatives, or parents who couldn't provide them basic nourishment.  A child was so undernourished, he couldn't even sit down at the age of 8 months because he only subsisted on sugar disolved in water since birth til Sr. Salud rescued him.  After 5 months of proper nutrition, he can now stand up and even take a few steps.
Theirs is a perfect example of living by faith.  They rely on donations for their needs.  There was once a time, each child only had a piece of chicken neck for their meal.  The cook just added ginger and malunggay leaves to make the dish somehow flavorful.  In spite of that, they gobbled up everything with gusto, ever thankful that they have warm food in their bellies and a roof on their heads.
News of their plight caught the attention of many people, including UPIS batch 88.  With God's grace and love, they are now living decent lives, far from what they were subjected to only a year ago.
UPIS batch 88 has been providing the shelter with food, medicine and vitamins for a year now.  The socio-civic committee has tapped the school's Peer facilitators Club to take charge of entertaining the kids during their monthly activities. These projects expose the students to outreach projects at a very young age.
We believe that we are never too young to embark on meaning endeavors.  We are all blessed and in our little way, we can contribute in making a better tomorrow.
